How to Cook Sushi Rice

Method


Tips for cooking rice

  • Measure the rice and water ratio with a measuring jug
  • Don't be tempted to lift the lid or stir while cooking
  • Allow rice to stand after cooking to absorb any remaining moisture

Rice Cooker

  • Rinse rice grains with cold water
  • Place 1 cup of rice in a rice cooker bowl
  • Add 1 ½ cups of water
  • Start cooking in the rice cooker. When rice cooker is finished it will switch to ‘keep warm’ (after approx 15 minutes. Remove bowl and let stand for 10 minutes to allow the rice to cool.
  • Place rice in a glass or wooden bowl and gradually mix in ½ cup of rice vinegar, 2 tbsp of caster sugar and ½ teaspoon of salt using a wooden spoon.
  • Fan rice to cool prior to making your favourite sushi dish.

  • Place rice in a glass or wooden bowl and gradually mix in ½ cup of rice vinegar, 2 tbsp of caster sugar and ½ teaspoon of salt using a wooden spoon.
  • Fan rice to cool prior to making your favourite sushi dish.

  • Place 1 cup of rice in a saucepan on the stove
  • Add 8 cups of cold water. Bring to the boil and stir occasionally
  • Reduce heat and simmer covered for 15 minutes
  • Remove from heat, drain well and serve
  • Place rice in a glass or wooden bowl and gradually mix in ½ cup of rice vinegar, 2 tbsp of caster sugar and ½ teaspoon of salt using a wooden spoon.
  • Fan rice to cool prior to making your favourite sushi dish
  • 1 cup of uncooked rice = approximately 3 cups of cooked rice. For softer rice add more water
